Our Story
Shady Beaches was created by four longtime friends—Monika Kost, Denise Samide, Sue Panzer, and Angela Smith—whose connection to Cherry Grove spans decades. Our Cherry Grove story began in the mid-1980s as day trippers, eventually renting weekly and then seasonally, before ultimately becoming proud homeowners. Cherry Grove has been more than just a destination for us—it has been a second home, a sanctuary, and a community that has shaped our lives. Over the years, we have each become deeply involved in the fabric of this community. We continue to serve on the Cherry Grove Community Association’s (CGCAI) executive board and board of directors, the Memorial Fund board, the Arts Project of Cherry Grove (APCG), and the Cherry Grove Fire Department (CGFD) executive board—where we hold leadership roles, including Second and Third Assistant CGFD Chiefs. We are also part of the Northwell Immediate Care Center’s medical team (aka Doctor’s House).
Our roots run even deeper through the traditions and spirit of this community. Many of you may know us as “Grovettes,” proudly participating in the annual Cherry Bowl against the Suffolk County Police for over 30 years, from our participation in the annual Invasion of the Pines, or our time working at beloved local establishments like Michael’s, Cherry’s, the Ice Palace, and Floyd’s. These experiences have connected us to generations of Grove residents and visitors, and they continue to inspire our commitment to this magical place. Shady Beaches was born from that love and dedication. We saw an opportunity to enhance the Cherry Grove beach experience in a way that reflects the care, pride, and respect we all share for our shoreline. We believe beach days should be beautiful, easy, and a little bit extra—and they should be responsible. We’re committed to protecting and preserving our local beaches and ocean wildlife. Every setup and takedown is done with intention and care, ensuring we leave the shoreline as pristine as we found it. Protecting Cherry Grove’s natural beauty isn’t just part of our business—it’s part of who we are. Our concierge-style cabana and beach chair setups are designed to make your time on the beach effortless, comfortable, and memorable. Above all, Shady Beaches is about community. It is about neighbors taking care of neighbors, about enhancing the experiences that make Cherry Grove so unique, and about giving back to a place that has given us so much.
From shade and seating to coolers, ice, water, towels, music, phone chargers, complimentary water for your dogs, and even garbage removal, we aim to handle the details so you can fully relax and enjoy the beauty around you.
